VERMILLION, S.D. (KCAU) – The South Dakota Coyotes formally introduced Carrie Eighmey as the program’s women’s basketball head coach at the DakotaDome in Vermillion today.

After starting her coaching career in Nebraska, Eighmey made the move to Idaho last season to lead the Vandals.

The move to Vermillion puts Eighmey just a few hours away from her hometown of Edgar, Neb., a big reason why she accepted the position at USD.

“It’s a super exciting day. This is kind of the day that then tomorrow, you make sure you can get to work.” Eighmey said.

“I mean the process is a crazy one, that’s for sure. You think you’re ready for it, but you just don’t know until you go through it.” South Dakota athletic director Jon Schemmel added.

Eighmey has totaled 248 wins throughout her head coaching career, which has included stints at Hastings College, University of Nebraska Kearney, and Idaho.
