Speed limit reduced on a portion of Akahele Street

Reduction to accommodate school traffic from the temporary King Kamehameha III Elementary School site

HONOKOWAI, Hawai‘i – The Hawai‘i Department of Transportation (HDOT) advises highway users that the speed limit on Akahele Street, mauka of Honoapi‘ilani Highway (Route 30) is being reduced from 30 mph to 20 mph.

The reduction is to accommodate school traffic from the temporary King Kamehameha III Elementary School site, which has its entrance and exit along Akahele Street. The school is makai of the Kapalua Airport.

Akahele Street also serves as the main thoroughfare for the airport.

New school zone and speed limit signs will be installed within a week. The speed limit change will take effect when the signs are posted.
